The Grand Final is the last act of the AFL season, and this one is now settled. With the home and away season long finished, there was no ladder left to play for at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, only the premiership itself. One side walks away with the flag, the other with the runner up finish, and there is no next week for either.

Fremantle hosted the Brisbane Lions on Saturday 26 September at 2:30 pm AET, and it was the Lions who came out on top, 96 to 89. Brisbane had gone into the decider as the shorter side in the head to head market, rated at 1.65 to Fremantle's 2.25, and they backed that up on the biggest stage to claim the premiership. Fremantle, who finished the season on top of the ladder, fell just seven points short in the end. That closes the book on the AFL year, with the Lions the last team standing.
